Join the Hartford Chorale and the Hartford Symphony Orchestra for Joyful Voices!

    December 3-6, 2015
    Belding Theater, The Bushnell

In December, as part of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra’s acclaimed Masterworks series, the Chorale will be showcased in a concert entitled Joyful Voices.

The concert will open with the sublime “Requiem” by Gabriel Fauré – arguably described as the most comforting of all the great settings of the powerful requiem text. Fauré’s musical embrace of death is one of serenity rather than of fear. Richly scored for full orchestra, soprano and bass soloists, and chorus, this work promises to be touching, uplifting and heartwarming.

In keeping with the holiday season, excerpts from Handel’s oratorio “Messiah” will be performed in the second half of the concert, again with full orchestra and chorus with some of the region’s finest vocal soloists. The oratorio has been a staple in the repertoire of the Hartford Chorale for some forty-five years, and our concert will include the rousing Hallelujah Chorus.
