Learn about the creative composing process!

Hear Mr. Perkins describe how he goes about writing a commissioned work, including selection of text, orchestration and musical style, with particular emphasis on the Hartford Chorale Commission to commemorate the group’s 50th anniversary. Previously commissioned works also will be played and discussed.

All concerts in our virtual season will be conducted over ZOOM and are free to the public. No advance registration is required. A shareable ZOOM link will be available on the Hartford Chorale Facebook page 30 minutes prior to the start of each performance.

Listening Event April 2021: Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem

Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem

Hear this powerful piece performed by a massed choir, including Hartford Chorale, in a concert from 2010. Described as “harrowing and mournful,” the Requiem was commissioned for the reconsecration of Coventry Cathedral after it had been destroyed by Nazi bombs in WWII. Recorded live at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, Christopher Zimmerman conducting.

The national crisis we are currently experiencing has caused us to pause and reflect about the racial injustices in our world. The Hartford Chorale is determined to continue building an organization that promotes an environment of inclusion and belonging. We are proud and passionate about our work. Our art belongs to all.
